Union Productions is proud to announce a performance by Architecture in Helsinki at Club Downunder Wednesday, November 9! Getting their start in 2000, this Australian indie pop ensemble has always been equal parts marching band, pop dance collective and a cappella group. Made up of several multi-instrumentalists, Architecture in Helsinki is constantly pushing the boundaries of their music. A diverse set of instruments that includes the glockenspiel, keyboards, clarinet and recorder adds a shape-shifting adaptability to their sound. When paired with their unconventional arrangements, music that could potentially turn chaotic maintains a steady flow throughout each song. No strangers to the limelight, Architecture in Helsinki has previously toured with the likes of Belle and Sebastian, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Death Cab for Cutie and many more.

Opening we indie rock band DOM with a sound that is lo-fi distortion meets sunny rhythmic of pop.

Union Productions and the PRIDE Student Union are pleased to present a performance by The Wau Wau Sisters on Friday, November 4 at Club Downunder! The New York City burlesque duo is comprised of half-sisters Tanya Gagne and Adrienne Truscott. Although growing up with similiar interests in gymnastics, theatre and dance, the Wau Wau Sisters grew up separately and reconnected in their early teens. Specializing in guitar and drums, the sisters also enjoy playing anything they can get their hands including tambourine, uke, and piano. Their show is truly a variety act with circus routines, comedy, vaudeville skits, homemade costumes, a lot of dirty songs and double entendres. The Wau Wau Sisters have taken their variety act all over the world including a 10 day run of shows at the famed Sydney Opera House. You won’t want to miss this show full of surprises!

Brandt Brauer Frick will be playing at Club Downunder on Tuesday, November 1. Brandt Brauer Frick is a Berlin trio of classically trained musicians, who redefine 21st century dancefloor music with their mix of acoustic jazz and minimal electro and techno beat, using pianos, drums, strings, glockenspiels and even a rainstick. Their debut LP You Make Me Real, released last year, ranges from infectious house loops to raw and jazzy textures, and their sophomore effort Mr. Machine hit shelves at the end of October, showcasing most of the deep house experimental sound. Recently Brandt Brauer Frick expanded to a ten-piece ensemble so they can play completely live, showing the multiple dimensions of their music.

Union Productions welcomes Ted Leo and the Pharmacists to Club Downunder on Wednesday November 2! With singer/guitarist Ted Leo as the band’s main creative force, label and lineup changes have not slowed these punk rockers down. Getting his start mixing elements of reggae, dub and audio experimentation, Leo formed the Pharmacists initially as a solo project in 1999. However, as the band expanded so did their popularity, leading to performances at Coachella and the Pitchfork Music Festival. Ted Leo’s ability to say a lot in a small space and his insistent, assertive melodies create a sound all his own.

Pujol will be opening the show with their brand of gothic southern rock. These Nashville-based rockers combine rumbling guitar riffs and infectious hooks with a gritty garage-band sound that is sure to captivate.

Canadian dream pop outfit Memoryhouse will be playing at Club Downunder on Sunday, October 30. Memoryhouse is comprised of Evan Abeele orchestrating lush atmospheres that keep a classic, polished feel while still being included in the lo-fi definition, The other half of the Memoryhouse equation is the sublime vocals provided by Denise Nouvion. They have just made their Sub Pop Records debut with the re-release of their EP The Years, which is a beautiful group of ethereal synth-pop tracks that mix ambient loops and shoegaze guitar tones to compliment Nuovion’s truly calming voice. Memoryhouse has just recently played in support of Peter Bjorn and John on a stint of tour dates and will be playing the 2011 CMJ Music Marathon festival in New York City, shortly before gracing our own stage.

Tallahassee Local Malee Bringardner will be opening the show with her musical project MoonLasso. Her haunting voice is supported by minimal electronics, guitar and murky atmospheres. MoonLasso released the EP Lamplighter last year and has been spotlighted on Altered Zones, the sister site of Pitchfork that focuses on leftfield pop, experimental, and home-recorded sounds.

Union Productions is pleased to announce a concert featuring indie-pop duo Mates of State at Club Downunder on Thursday, October 27th. Comprised of Kori Gardner (keyboard, vocals) and Jason Hammel (drums, vocals), the couple married in 2001 after a short stint of performing their identifiably exuberant minimalist pop melodies. The harmony of the couples’ voices blend with the quirky, electric organ-based keywork, exhibiting a pl…ayful passion. The prolific duo has released seven studio albums while continuously touring with their two daughters. Their “Crushes” mixtape featured covers of songs by Nick Cave, Daniel Johnston, and The Mars Volta. Their most recent release, “Mountaintops,” features the expected upbeat songs interspersed with divergent, epic ballads of lamentation.

Accompanying Mates of State are Generationals. Hailing from New Orleans, Generationals applies lo-fi sensibility to their jarring indie-pop, which is sure to please fans of alternative acts such as Dr. Dog, of Montreal, and No Age.
