Washed Out is Ernest Greene’s synthpop project that blends hypnotic pulsing beats with blurred singing over lush synth atmospheres. Washed Out has been gaining recognition and respect from musicians and listeners alike and toured with Beach House, Yeasayer and Small Black this past year. His highly anticipated first full-length album is scheduled for release around March. This is your chance to see Washed Out headline in the intimate atmosphere of Club Downunder. In case you didn’t catch any chillwaves when Washed Out opened for Yeasayer last semester, the tide’s coming back in!

Since their arrival in South Florida, the Pets have earned a reputation as one of the area’s most prolific and explosive original acts. They are proud to have been selected out of over 350 other bands (through Sonicbids-thanks!), to perform at the 2006 Langerado Music Festival. At Langerado they performed alongside acts like Ben Harper, The Disco Biscuits, The Black Crows, G Love and Robert Randolph.

Pinback – 10/23 @ CDU

San Diego-based indie veterans Pinback will be stopping by Club Downunder on October 23 for what is sure to be a show to remember. The band is focused around Amristead Burwell Smith IV and Rob Crow, with an ever-changing line up supporting the duo in their creation of postmodern indie pop. The group is currently working on a new album, tentatively scheduled to be released in 2010. The record will be released by Temporary Residence, due to Pinback’s former label, Touch and Go, announcing earlier this year they will no longer be releasing new music.

Broken Social Scene come from the fertile music scene in Toronto. A revolving cast of players that has included some twenty-plus members, this collective formed through Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning’s collaboration with such disparate bands and artists as Stars, Leslie Feist, Metric, Do Make Say Think, A Silver Mt. Zion, and several others.

Silver Jews are playing in Club Downunder with Monotonix Tuesday, September 16. The Silver Jews were formed in 1989 by David Berman and have released six albums and two EPs. They frequently tour with Monotonix. Monotonix is an Israeli Garage Rock Band from Tel Aviv, Israel. They released their debut EP in 2008 and have performed at SXSW, and Austin City Limits Music Festival.

The Club Downunder is privileged to have Mates of State’s Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel perform this Sunday, September 14. The duo has been married for seven years and have released five full-length albums and two EPs. Mates of State toured with Spoon, Death Cab for Cutie and as the house band for WBEZ Chicago’s This American Life, hosted by Ira Glass.

The Last Call before Fall concert, scheduled to take place in the Club Downunder, has been canceled due to show complications related to Tropical Storm Fay.

“Rooney is a five-piece rock band from Los Angeles signed to Geffen Records. The band is composed of: Robert Carmine, Louie Stephens, Taylor Locke, Ned Brower, and Matthew Winter. The band is named after principal Ed Rooney, from the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

Their music is reminiscent of British Invasion rock and 1980s pop, and has been compared to The Beatles, The Cars and Blur. Having toured the nation with acts such as Weezer and The Strokes, Rooney’s official website states that the band “manages to capture elements from the past four decades and make them sound modern today.”
