Union Productions is proud to welcome Asobi Seksu to the stage at Club Downunder. Formed in 2001 and originally known as Sportfuck, Asobi Seksu changed their name and shifted their sound in 2004 with the release “Citrus,” which was met with favorable reviews. The band, fronted by keyboardist and vocalist Yuki Chikudate, experiments with effect-heavy, swimming vocals and shoegaze melodies. Their sound is also tinged with J-pop in…fluences to create a truly unique dream pop aesthetic. Fans of everything from Beach House to Puffy AmiYumi will find Asobi Seksu’s sleek, atmospheric sounds enticing. Asobi Seksu have had their tracks featured in such diverse media as the British television series “Skins” and So Yong Kim’s 2009 film “Treeless Mountain.” Their 2011 album, “Fluorescence,” was released on Polyvinyl records.
Opening the night will be Orlando, Florida’s resident psychgaze band Saskatchewan. Following in the footsteps of the likes of Candy Claws, Saskatchewan creates hazy, revelatory soundscapes dripping with an at times tropical psychedelia.
