Synth-pop maestro Chaz Bundick better known by his stage name of Toro y Moi will be playing Club Downunder on Tuesday, October 11!
Bundrick was labeled as a forerunner of the “chillwave” movement when his debut album “Causers of This” came out in January of 2010. With his sophomore album “Underneath the Pine” the synth-pop roots were replaced with a more instrumental composition including organ, pianos, chimes, and plenty of live drumming. Toro y Moi has continued to progress and with the release of his “Freaking Out EP” just last month, the slower funky 80s jams have started to turn toward more straight forward dance floor jams with big beats and catchy melodies all while keeping a distinctive 80s funk feel. At the impressive rate that Toro y Moi is growing in skill and refining his sound, you will surely not want to miss catching his only Florida date on this tour!
Unknown Mortal Orchestra is based around Ruban Nielson, a New Zealand native who transplanted to Portland, Oregon. He is joined by Jake Portrait on bass and Julien Ehrlich on drums and together they merge simple and catchy melodies into a raw and buzzcut production that puts an emphasis on the beats. The sound captures the best parts of rock, soul and punk with a big enough 60s psychedelia influence to give them a a fresh yet nostalgic sound.
Oxford, Mississippi duo Bass Drum of Death consists of John on guitar and Coiln on drums. They assault their listeners with a bluesy fuzzy garage rock wall of sound. Bass Drum of Death is probably most well known right now for backing Odd Future duo and Fat Possum labelmates MellowHype in a live performance on Fuel TV.
